The book is dedicated to Hufnal’s “comrades past, present, and future who serve and protect Haverford Township and to its residents, who make it a place worth protecting.” The 124-page paperback book, which includes historic photos and reprinted newspaper clippings, was published through CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. Hufnal released “ Hallissey! The Incredible Life and Times of Haverford Township’s First Chief of Police” earlier this year. The 25-year police veteran and first-time author decided, then and there, that he would be the one to write it, preserving this intriguing piece of Haverford history. “This guy’s story could be a book,” Hufnal remembers thinking, as he continued to pore over records and newspaper clippings of the legendary law enforcer. Haverford Township’s very first police chief, Ed Hallissey had his incredible career come to an unfortunate and abrupt end in April 1921, when he was arrested, drunk and in full uniform, after driving onto a Philadelphia sidewalk and then threatening the life of a Philadelphia police officer. Unexpectedly, he unearthed a shocking news tidbit that made him stop in his tracks.
